Celebrate Independence Day at the official Gila Valley 250 Fourth of July Parade in downtown Safford. This year's theme, "The Star-Spangled Banner," honors the song that has inspired generations of Americans while commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Main Street in Safford and will feature patriotic floats, community organizations, marching groups, public safety agencies, businesses, and local residents coming together to celebrate the nation's history, freedom, and spirit. Parade entries will compete for awards including Most Patriotic, Most Creative, Best in Theme, and Best Youth Entry. The Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Swift-Murphy Post 32, and American Legion Post 95 are teaming up for a special Independence Day celebration. They will host the annual Moe Villalba Sr. Fishing Derby at the duck ponds at the Graham County Fairgrounds on July 4th from 6 to 11 a.m. The event is free for all children and will feature prizes in multiple age categories.
